Time for the Brooklyn Nets to get excited

We all know that pre-season basketball means absolutely nothing unless your team is winning and looking good, which is exactly the case for the Brooklyn Nets after their pre-season opener against Washington.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant were stepping onto the court together for the first time as Brooklyn Nets, the latter making his first NBA appearance in over 550 days. Nobody was expecting much with both coming off long term injuries and with it being pre-season but the all-star duo the Nets signed in 2019 free agency showed early signs of a new dynamite tag-team.

Both played limited minutes, all of Kyrie's coming in the first half but that was more than enough time to show there were no long term affects following his injury struggles. The former all-star guard put up 18 points and 4 assists in just 17 minutes. Going for 7 of 9 from the field and 2 of 3 from three point land. As for KD he wasn't quite as fluid but still put up 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks in his 24 minutes on the court.

The biggest upside for Nets fans was seeing the challenger they've been dreaming of having for the past eight years coming together. Their two stars, who they've been forced to wait over a year to see on the court together, are in-sync and ready to put together a serious playoff push in 2021 and beyond.

Kevin Durant hadn't set foot on an NBA court in nearly two years but in his return he showed no signs of rust and most importantly no signs of fear or hesitation. One of the biggest issues facing players who are returning after serious injury, is playing within yourself to limit the chances of injury happening again, look at Gordon Hayward. Thankfully for Durant, Brooklyn and the NBA as a whole, the 2014 MVP is ready to return as strong and aggressive as ever.

It has only been one game, in pre-season, against a Washington team without Beal or Westbrook but hell lets get excited anyway, the Brooklyn Nets have their star duo, great depth and a coaching team with great balance. No doubt a serious contender ahead of the new season.
