Three-pronged attack eases Dallas past OKC
The Dallas Mavericks continued their drive up the Western Conference with a comfortable win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. It was a team effort from Dallas with Luka & Porzingis starring and Tim Hardaway Jr continuing his fine form from the bench. Final Score: Mavs 127-106 OKC.
OKC gave a very good account of themselves with four of five of their starters having less than one full season of NBA experience.
The Mavs offense has been hot since early February after a stuttering start to the season and they showed that from the first whistle as they opened up a nine point lead.
The young Thunder were resilient however and levelled the score early in the second quarter but they couldn't match up with the Mavs star power as Doncic & Hardaway steadied the ship for Dallas to go in at the break with an eight point lead despite OKC winning the quarter 39-38.
Dallas were determined to kill off the Thunder out of the break and the three-pronged attack came to be as they stretched the lead out to 17 and all but ended the game as a contest. Porzingis didn't take to the floor in the fourth quarter but still finished the game with 20 pts 9 rebs 5 ast & 2 blocks.
Luka dropped a quick pair of step-back threes midway through the third quarter to drop the hammer on the young Thunder squad who have now lost three straight. Doncic was returning after missing the last two games through injury and finished with 25 pts 3 rebs 7 ast & shot 40% from deep.
The Mavs extended the lead to a game high 27 in the fourth quarter as the party tricks started and they emptied their bench. Despite the 21 point win, the Mavs were still very dependent on the bench scoring of Tim Hardaway, who dropped 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting in just 20 minutes of action.
Dallas made sure to avoid the potential banana skin on Monday night and now sit seventh in the West with a record of 24-21.
