Luka lights up Boston to give Mavs big road win
Luka Doncic was at his magically best on Wednesday night, lighting it up from deep as the Mavericks continued their fine form. Final Score: Mavs 113-108 Celtics
Boston were playing their second game at home since the return of fans to TD Garden but so far it has done nothing to improve form, with the team now on a run of 7 losses in their last 10 games.
A close game to begin, the Celtics went to the three ball early on but they were ice cold from deep and the Mavs took advantage, ending the quarter with a five point lead.
The Mavs star duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis were the difference makers for Dallas with Luka going 5 of 6 from deep and KP doing a little bit of everything in the first half.
The Celtics were getting a number of good looks on offense but nothing was going down as they finished the first quarter having shot 34% from the field and just 16% from the three. The Mavericks taking full advantage of this slump shooting above 50% from the field and three including 13 makes. Half-time: Mavs 64-45 Celtics
Doncic finished the first half with 24 pts 4 reb & 3 assists and continued his efficient form in the 3rd quarter as the Mavericks stretched their lead to 23 points.
However, just like on Monday night against the Pelicans, Boston refused to roll over but some crucial plays on both ends from Kristaps Porzingis kept Dallas ahead by 17 heading into the fourth.
Porzingis' rim protection was crucial throughout the game and with the big man sitting to begin the final period, Boston took advantage, closing the gap to single digits. With just under three minutes to play, the Celtics had closed to within six points but as the shot clock expired, Doncic hit a deep stepback three to push the lead back out to nine.
Still the Celtics battled and after a pair of threes and some crucial hustle plays they closed to within two points with just 16.4 seconds remaining but they never got the chance to level as Jalen Brunson, who finished the game 21/5/3 off the bench, iced the game from the free throw line.
Boston had three players score 20+ points but Luka Doncic was once again the star of the game and the difference maker finishing with 36 pts 8 reb & 5 assists, shooting 7 of 11 from deep. The Mavs now sit 25-21 while the Celtics stay in 8th in the East.
