Dallas hold off Lakers for 32nd win

Luka Doncic dropped 30 to give the Dallas Mavericks the win against the Lakers on Thursday night. Anthony Davis returned for LA after missing 30 games, he had 4 points in his 16 minutes of action.

The Mavs started slow and LA took advantage, jumping into an early eight point lead. Dallas began to find their feet as the teams exchanged leads. Kristaps Porzingis led the way in the first quarter as he dropped 11 points helping the Mavs to a five point lead after one.

Mavs stayed hot to begin the second and quickly stretched their lead out to double digits, as Luka Doncic began to have his way with the Lakers defense.

Doncic finished the quarter with 13 pts and 4 assists as the Mavericks went into the break with a healthy 11 point lead. HT: Lakers 51-62 Mavs.

The Lakers came out fast to begin the second half, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope dropping seven points in the opening two minutes to bring the teams level once again. This 11-0 run appeared to awaken the home team as Dallas went about re-establishing the lead.

Kristaps Porzingis was having his way inside while Luka Doncic retained his hot hands from the second quarter as the Mavericks stretched their lead back out to double digits.

However, by the midway point of the quarter, LA had re-taken the lead with Dennis Schroder and KCP both having big third quarters, the two ultimately combining for 24 points.

After a rapid exchange of leads, the Mavs re-established control and went into the final period with a four point lead. Thanks, in no small part, to another big quarter from Luka Doncic, who had 11.

JJ Reddick dropped a quick seven points to begin the fourth quarter as Dallas pushed their lead out to nine points. But just like in the third, Schroder & KCP kept the Lakers in touch.

Midway through the fourth both teams went cold and Luka Doncic hit a pair of buckets either side of a Tim Hardaway Jr free-throw to extend the lead back to nine and ice the game for the Mavericks. Lakers threatened to stage a final fightback in the closing minutes but the Dallas lead was too much for them.

The Mavericks brought their home record up to 15-14 with this win ahead of rematch between the two teams on Saturday night. Final Score: Lakers 110-115 Mavs.
